On 13 October 2016 we will publish our first annual report on the recognition system. The report will be available by 12pm.
This will fulfil the Royal Charter requirement that we report ‘on any success or failure of the recognition system’ and ‘inform Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, and the public as soon as practicable if, on the first anniversary of the date the Recognition Panel is first in a position to accept applications for recognition and thereafter annually if:
- there is no recognised regulator; or
- in the opinion of the Recognition Panel, the system of regulation does not cover all significant relevant publishers.’
The first anniversary of the date we were able to accept applications was 10 September 2016. There was only a short window of opportunity when Parliament sat for a few days in September, so our Board agreed that it was better to publish the report at the earliest possible opportunity after Parliament returned from recess in October, and it agreed the timings with the parliamentary authorities.
We will also send copies to the Welsh Assembly and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
We will hold a webinar on 18 October 2016 to present our findings and answer any questions. The webinar will run from 12.30pm-13.30pm. Further details will be announced shortly on our website.
